DECATUR, Ala. - The Lady Tigers continued their Jekyll and Hyde softball
season, losing 4-3 to Lee University and then beating Bryan College by
run rule, 11-2, on Day 2 of the Alabama Arctic Blast.
In game one, Campbellsville had just as many hits as Lee, but committed four errors that attributed to all four of the Lady Flames' runs.
CU led 1-0 after one when
Emma Napier scored on
Jennifer England's double. But the Lady Tigers trailed 4-1 after four.
In the bottom of the fifth, a two-out single by
Kacie Vincent started a two-run rally. Napier singled Vincent home and
Bailey Dillender's safety plated Napier. But CU left two runners on base.
Campbellsville (5-4) left two runners in scoring position in the second as well, five in all. Napier had three hits, one a double. Dillender had two hits and Kristen Benton and
Heather Oakley a single apiece.
Courtney Turpin took the loss, giving up eight hits in four innings even though none of the Lee runs were earned.
Martina Riney relieved Turpin and pitched the final three frames, allowing one hit.
In game two, Turpin shook off her first-game loss and had a two-hit, four-RBI game as the Designated Player.
CU (6-4) scored five in the first, four in the second and two in the third, leading 11-0 before Bryan scored twice in the fourth. Among the hits were five doubles.
Taylor Wroe picked up the win, allowing two runs off five hits in her four-inning stint. She got one inning of one-hit relief from junior
Leslie Hastings.
The Lady Tigers pounded out 14 hits. Napier had two hits, one a double, and scored twice. Cornett had a hit and scored once. Dillender had two hits, drove in two runs and scored three times. England was 2 for 3 with three RBI and scored once. Oakley had two hits, an RBI and scored once. Kristen Benton had a double and
Alyssa Barker and Vincent a single apiece.
It doesn't get any easier for the Lady Tigers on Saturday as they take on Trevecca (1:00) and Reinhardt (3:00) on Day 3 of the Alabama Arctic Blast.
