"We were soft today," said Coach Ginger Colvin. "They're a good team, but they got us back on our heels early and we never really recovered."

Xavier led 21-9 eight minutes into the first half as Marissa Young led the Cougars to that point. Xavier had four players in double figures, led by Young's 16.

Colvin told her team at Wednesday's practice that Xavier would have four shooters on the floor all the time. And shooters they were.

The Cougars hit 55 percent for the game, 57 from 3. Campbellsville shot 24 percent in the first half and it didn't improve much in the second, finishing the game at 25 percent from the field, 35 percent from 3.

But as bad at the Lady Tigers played in the first half, they were only down 10 at the break.

"I told the girls that we had 14 turnovers in the first half and as bad as we played were were only down 10," said Colvin. "I thought if we could come out and gain a little composure, we could get back in it."

Two baskets by Mary Jehlik and one by Mackenzie Lee closed CU to within eight, 41-33, at the 16:40 mark of the second half. But Xavier went on a 14-6 run, 8-0 after Campbellsville's 15 turnover and the Cougars led 53-35.

That lead ballooned to 63-39 at the eight-minute mark and was at 73-47 before Campbellsville scored 10 of the game's final 12 points.

"There are a bunch of teams that would have loved to have been here," said Colvin. "So, from that standpoint we did something a lot of teams didn't.

"We tried every defense we have and none of them seemed to work. It's a learning process, I just hate to learn from a loss."

Courtney Clifton led the Lady Tigers with 19 points. She was joined in double figures by Daizah Kimberland, who had 10 points in 19 minutes of play.

The loss ended the Campbellsville season at 20-13. Saint Xavier continues at 24-8.
