CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - The Lady Tigers parked four home runs in the second game of a double header with Calumet College on Sunday afternoon and completed a sweep of the Crimson Wave, 5-1 and 12-0, on the final day of the Campbellsville Classic.
Campbellsville 5, Calumet 1CU got a combined four hitter out of
Courtney Turpin and
Martina Riney to post its 17th win of the season.
Turpin went four innings and Riney three. Both pitchers recorded two strikeouts.
Tied at 1-1, Campbellsville pushed across three runs in the bottom of the third, utilizing two walks, a hit and two Calumet errors.
Jordan Cornett's sacrifice bunt plated
Brooke Boils, who led off the inning with a walk.
Kacie Vincent recored the only hit of the frame, a single. She and Boils scored on the wild throw of a bunted ball hit by
Emma Napier.
In the sixth,
Heather Oakley's doubled scored
Kristin Benton, who singled.
The Lady Tiger offense posted seven hits. Benton had a second hit and Benton had another single.
Campbellsville 12, Calumet 0Calumet was seemingly out of the second inning unscathed until
Jennifer England struck out but reached first on a passed ball. That was a big mistake by the Crimson Wave.
With two outs, the Lady Tigers scored nine runs on six hits ... sending 12 batters to the plate.
The big damage was done by
Bailey Dillender, who had two one-run homers, Napier's three-run double and Oakley's three-run home run. Cornett and Benton also had hits in the inning.
CU (18-12, 4-1) added three more runs in the fourth on
Alyssa Barker's two-run tater and a solo shot by Oakley.
Taylor Wroe picked up the win with a four hitter over 4 1/ 3 innings. She saw relief from
Leslie Hastings, who retired the only two batters she faced, striking out one.
Campbellsville goes on the road Thursday for a double header with Asbury University in Wilmore, Ky., first game set for 5:00.
