OKLAHOMA CITY - Four Lady Tigers set season-best time splits Friday in the NAIA Women's Swimming National Championships. Campbellsville University posted a time of 1:54.15 in the 200-yard freestyle relay preliminaries - its only race of the day.
While CU finished 19
th in the 19-team race each individual swam a season best for the event.
Kathleen Ewing started the relay with a 50-yard time of 28.04, followed by
Katie Kelien with a time of 32.86. Carrie Wohlshlegel posted a third-leg time of 27.19, while
Brooke Cato anchored the race with a time of 26.06.
"It was great watching them race, and I'm so excited for all the time improvements! I'm so proud of my girls," said CU head coach
Casey Smith.
Also during the day, Wohlshlegel and
Alison Lee were announced as NAIA Scholar Athletes.
In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status to qualify for this honor.
The Lady Tigers will return to the pool Saturday at 10 a.m. CT for the 400-yard freestyle relay. Also, Cato will compete in the 100-yard individual freestyle.
