Tigers drop road game at No.12 Union, 5-1

Box Score BARBOURVILLE, Ky. -- Two innings of scoring is all No. 12 Union College needed Wednesday, as Campbellsville University was unable to rally and dropped back-to-back games for the first time this season, losing 5-1.

The loss is the second-straight for Campbellsville (22-6) against Top 15 teams, one day after No. 7 Cumberland University scored seven unearned in the ninth for a come-from-behind win.

Brandon Hedrick got the Bulldogs' offense going in the second inning with a leadoff double. He scored on an RBI single by Nelson Price with one out. Price came around to score on an error at third by Gibby Briones.

The Tigers scored its only run in the top of the fifth as Tony Rossetto and Tanner Nielsen led off with back-to-back singles. Rossetto's courtesy runner, Levi McCamish, scored on a throwing error from Union catcher Gabby Juabre as Nielsen stole second. However, Campbellsville was unable to cut further into the Bulldogs' lead, as Union posted a three-spot in the bottom half of the inning.

With one out and one on in the fifth, Tim DeVito homered to left to score Cory Perreault. Hedrick, who was 3-for-4 in the game, later followed with an RBI single to cap Union's scoring.

Catcher Tony Rossetto led Campbellsville with a 2-for-2 day at the plate, while Nielsen finished the day 2-for-3 and Craig Edwards hit 2-for-4.

Andrew Showemaker (3-2) recorded his second loss of the season for the Tigers after allowing all five runs, four earned, off eight hits and hitting three batters. He lasted seven innings before Mason Yates took over for the eighth.

Donnie Popham (2-2) recorded the win for Union after five innings of work. He allowed five hits, one run and walked one. Union staffed the remaining four innings with two innings from Malone Lee and one apiece by Drew Hillard and DeVito.

Campbellsville will take two days off before returning home to Tiger Field for a non-conference doubleheader Saturday against West Virginia Tech, scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. EDT. CU will also host West Virginia Tech for a doubleheader Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
