PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -
Taylor Wroe lost her shutout in the bottom of the seventh, but her tidy five-hitter in the second game of a Saturday doubleheader allowed the Lady Tigers to salvage a split with Shawnee State.
The win allows Campbellsville to remain tied in the loss column with the Lady Bears and Georgetown for the Mid-South Conference lead. Lindsey Wilson is lurking in second with three losses.
Shawnee 5, Campbellsville 1Campbellsville (24-13, 8-2) was outhit 7-6, but two of Shawnee's safeties were homers as the Lady Tigers could get nothing going offensively.
Ali Thompson, who had 77 strikeouts in 64 innings coming into the game, added another six to her total against CU. The Lady Tigers got runners in scoring position on four occasions, but were able to push across only one run - an RBI-single in the sixth by
Kristin Benton.
Shawnee (16-3, 8-1) got a two-out single from Ericka Leighty in the first and Kirsti Yates picked up two RBI with a home run. Shawnee added a third run in the fourth on a one-out homer by Holly Brabson. In the sixth, Kelsey Jenkins led off with a single. Then with two outs, the Lady Bears got a double out of Brabson and a run-scoring single from Jourdan Priddy to close out the scoring.
Losing pitcher
Courtney Turpin (14-7) had a three-hit game at the plate - all singles. Benton had two safeties along with
Jennifer England's single and a sixth-inning double by
Emma Napier.
Thompson improved to 9-1 with the win.

Taylor Wroe.
Wroe won her 10th game of the season, pitching a five-hitter and striking out eight along the way.
CU (25-13, 9-2) got on the board early when
Bailey Dillender's double plated
Jordan Cornett, who hit a one-out single in the first.
Wroe stranded four Shawnee (16-4, 8-2) runners through four frames and set the Lady Bears down in order in the fifth and sixth.
Heather Oakley had a two-run homer in the fifth with
Jennifer England aboard and then
Kristin Benton homered in the sixth after Cornett was hit by a pitch.
Campbellsville scored two more runs in the seventh when
Kacie Vincent doubled to score
Nicole Bohanon, who was pinch running for
Courtney Turpin.
Emma Napier's single scored Vincent.
Campbellsville returns home for a Tuesdaty doubleheader with the University of Virgina at Wise. Start time is 2:00.
