Lady Tigers earn split with Cumberlands on Senior Day

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Lady Tiger Softball celebrated Senior Day on Sunday, but was only able to gain a split with the University of the Cumberlands, losing 5-3 and then run-ruling the Lady Patriots 12-2 in game two.



In game one, the Lady Tigers matched the run production of their last 34 innings and could not hold off an opportunistic Cumberlands (9-38, 5-16) in dropped their sixth straight.
 
Campbellsville said good-bye to seniors Jennifer England, Jordan Cornett, Bailey Dillender and Nicole Bohanon with a pre-game framed-jersey presentations.

CU (33-21, 15-8) starts Mid-South Conference Tournament play on Thursday when it meets Rio Grande in an 11 a.m. game at Millennium Park in Danville, Ky.

Cumberlands 5, Campbellsville 3

Cumberlands out-hit CU 10-7 in the opening game, collecting three in the deciding seventh inning.

Trailing 3-1 going into the bottom of the fifth, the Lady Tigers did push across the tying runs on singles by Kristin Benton and Heather Oakley.

CU had the go-ahead run aboard in the bottom of the sixth after Kacie Vincent singled with two outs. But with Jennifer England at the plate, Vincent was caught stealing on a close play at second. England opened the seventh with a single, her second hit of the game.

CU starter Courtney Turpin gave up a one-out walk in the top of the seventh and then with two outs gave up run-scoring singles to Ashley Hopf and Angela Steuer.

Campbellsville had the tying runs on in the bottom of the seventh after England's single and Bailey Dillender's walk.

Steuer (6-20) picked up the win and Turpin (17-10) shouldered the loss.

Benton had three hits in the game and Turpin also added a single. Dillender was walked twice.

Campbellsville 12, Cumberlands 2

CU rapped out 15 hits in four at-bats to put game two away early.

The Lady Tigers got all over losing pitcher Jessica Speake with a five-run first and four-run second to give winning pitcher, Taylor Wroe (15-3), ample offensive support.

Heather Oakley singled home Jennifer England in the first and after Turpin's base on balls, Brooke Boils hit a three-run home run to left.

In the second frame, Kristin Benton singled home Kacie Vincent and a Dillender double plated two more runs. Oakley closed out the second-inning scoring when she scored on Speake's wild pitch.

After drawing a blank in the third, Boils had a run-scoring single in the fourth. Turpin scored on Sara Paragon's ground out and Alyssa Barkr drove in Boils.

Wroe gave up five hits, two to Jessica Speake.

Benton, Oakley and Boils had multiple-hit games, with Boils three hits and four RBIs.
