Tigers eliminated from MSC Tournament

Box Score CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - One inning was the difference Friday morning, as Campbellsville University was eliminated from the Mid-South Conference Tournament by top-seeded Lindsey Wilson College Blue Raiders, 4-0.

The loss ends a seven-year run for the Tigers appearing in the MSC Tournament championship.

Lindsey Wilson scored four runs in the top of the third after the Blue Raiders collected a pair of one-out singles to right to put two on. Manny Alonso followed with an RBI double to right to put LWC on the board. Drew Barrett then squeezed in another run before Manuel Ozoria knocked a two-out, two-run homer into the Tigers' bullpen.

CU managed to only put five runners on base in the game and left three in scoring position. The Tigers' best chance to get on the board came in the fifth after Rylan Chin had a one-out single and Brandon Johnson singled with two out. Both were left with an inning-ending strikeout.

Rusty Devitt (3-1) pitched the complete game for the Tigers, giving up eight hits and two walks. He struck out six in his only loss of the season. Darren Travers pitched a complete-game, five-hit shutout for Lindsey Wilson.

Tanner Nielsen, Chance Kopacz, Craig Edwards, Chin and Johnson each had a hit for CU.

Adam Peacock and Ozoria were each 2-for-4 to lead LWC. The Blue Raiders met UVA-Wise in the next loser's bracket game for a chance to advance to Saturday's game at 3 p.m. EDT against Shawnee State University. Georgetown College (44-9) is the only team remaining in the winner's bracket and will meet either Wise, LWC or Shawnee State in the MSC Tournament championship game Saturday at 7 p.m. EDT at Tiger Field.

Campbellsville (35-16) will assess its postseason options in the coming week. The next NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll comes out Monday, April 30 with the NAIA Opening Round selections announced Sunday, May 6. The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Tournament will begin May 8-11 with the NCCAA Mid-East Regional Tournament in Mayfield, Ky.
