Lady Tigers pull off fourth MSC sweep, beat UVa.-Wise 6-2, 9-0

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Campbellsville used a Tuesday sweep of the University of Virginia at Wise to maintain a portion of the lead in the Mid-South Conference at Veterans Memorial Park. The Lady Tigers move to 27-13, 11-2.

It was the fourth sweep of an conference opponent this season.

Campbellsville 6, UVa.-Wise 2

Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the second, Campbellsville (26-13, 10-2) used an RBI-double by Heather Oakley and a passed ball to take control of the first game of a doubleheader against the Lady Cavaliers.

UVa.-Wise (19-19, 5-7) had gone ahead 2-1 on an RBI-double by Charity Lawson and a single by Morgan Mayes.

Courtney Turpin, fresh off a Pitcher of the Week honor in the MSC, did not have her best stuff, giving up seven hits. But she stranded six Lady Cavaliers and benefited from two double plays by her  teammates.

The Lady Tigers pounded out 15 hits, three (two singles and a triple) by Kacie Vincent and two hits each by Kristin Benton and Oakley. CU got RBI-singles from Bailey Dillender and Jennifer England. Emma Napier and Turpin had doubles and Brooke Boils, Alyssa Barker both reached safely.

CU got an RBI-triple out of Benton in the first, knocking in Napier who had doubled. The Lady Tigers picked up a fourth run in the third on England's single and then scored two in the bottom of the sixth after Vincent led off with a triple. Boils had an RBI-bunt and Dillender's double scored Boils, who took second on an overthrow.

Campbellsville 9, UVa.-Wise 0

The Lady Tigers sent 15 batters to the plate in the third inning and put the game away with nine runs.

The Lady Cavaliers' Chelsey Booth relinquished five hits and walked five before being pulled for Lannie Johnston, who allowed an RBI-single to Kacie Vincent.

Taylor Wroe pitched three innings of four-hit softball before giving way to Martina Riney. Riney allowed a single and walked one in two innings of work.

Of Campbellsville's seven hits only Courtney Turpin's bases-clearing double was for extra bases. Vincent and Emma Napier had two singles each and Heather Oakley and Kristin Benton reached base once each.

Campbellsville jumps out of conference tomorrow with a 2 p.m. doubleheader against West Virginia Tech at Veterans Memorial Park.
