DANVILLE, Ky. - Campbellsville University outdoor track and field posted a fifth-place finish Saturday in the Centre College Invitational.
The Tigers collected 84 team points, finishing seven points behind University of the Cumberlands (91) and 10 behind Lindsey Wilson College (94). Other Mid-South Conference opponents in the meet were the University of Pikeville (11) and St. Catharine College (7.5). Eastern Kentucky University won the meet with 168 points, while Centre took second with 161.5 points.
Campbellsville collected 24 points from its distance events, mainly the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Andrew Simmons led the Tigers to a first-place finish in the steeplechase in a time of 10:10.03. He shaved more than 23.31 seconds off his seed time. Closely behind in second was Kyle Howdyshell in a time of 10:21.65.
"I was impressed with our steeplechase runners today. Andrew looked like he had them his whole career. Kyle stayed up there with him to finish second," said Joe Stockton, CU track coach.
Other distance points came from Trevor Jarvis, fifth in the 800-meter run (2:01.01), and Garrett Baker, seventh in the 10,000-meter run (38.25.16).
PJ Randles collected 32 of CU's 84 points, led by a meet record time of 15.23 seconds to win the 110-meter hurdles. Randles was runner-up in the triple jump, nine inches out of first, posting a mark of 13.04 meters. Randles fourth in the 400-meter hurdles, running just under a minute (59.59) and was also fourth in the high jump at 1.82 meters. He placed sixth in the long jump at 6.13 meters.
Other field event points for the Tigers came in the shot put. Jermaine Dumas placed second with a mark of 13.2 meters, while Cody Stockwell was eighth at 11.81 meters. Chris Brown was fifth in the javelin at 41.89 meters.
Other track event points went to David McKellar with a fifth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles (17.30) and Truman Padgett with a sixth-place finish in the 400-meter dash (51.14). McKellar and Padgett also finished third (58.27) and sixth (1:02.53), respectively, in the 400-meter hurdles.
Campbellsville will take a week off before traveling to the Bellarmine University Invitational in Louisville, Ky., April 21.
