Tigers shut out Tennessee Temple, 5-0, to open season

Box Score

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- Campbellsville University men's soccer opened the 2012 season on a high note Thursday, Aug. 30. The Tigers walked off the field at Camp Jordan Parks with a 5-0 shutout win on the road against the Crusaders of Tennessee Temple University.

Tennessee Temple entered Thursday's game with just one game under its belt, a 0-12 loss earlier in the week at Georgia Gwinnett College.

Junior defender, John Kennedy of Lochgilpinhead, Scotland was the first Tiger to find the net, but was certainly not the last. Following Kennedy's lead, freshman forward Roraigh Yearwood of London, England and Gustav Carlsson of Sweden, each scored a goal apiece before halftime, giving the Tigers a 3-0 lead.

Upon resuming play, the Tigers kept the offense rolling. With two second-half insurance goals from freshman Alex Ryan of London, England and junior Trevor Jarvis of Independence, Ky., Campbellsville held on for their first win of the season.

"It was good start to our season," Tigers head coach Adam Preston said, "but we still have a long way to go and a lot of hard work ahead of us.

"I'm really excited about the win, and compliments to Tennessee Temple for the improvements they have made over the last couple years. Now we are just focused on improving for the next match."

Campbellsville will return to action on Saturday in Finley Stadium for its home opener against Lawrence Technological University at 11a.m.

Prior to the game, CU's junior varsity team will take the turf at Finley Stadium to host the club team from Elizabethtown Community and Technical College at 8 a.m. EDT.
