Tigers knock off NCCAA No. 10 Trevecca

Box Score

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Campbellsville University extended its unbeaten streak to three games Tuesday, holding on for a 4-3 road victory at Trevecca Nazarene University. The Trojans, a Mid-East Region foe in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA), were ranked No. 10 in the latest NCCAA national poll.

CU now not only holds the top overall record in the Mid-East Region at 6-3-1, but leads the Mid-East in head-to-head competition with a 2-0-1 record.

"It was a good hard-fought win for a young team. These are the games we have to learn to win, and today was a day of growth for us," said Adam Preston, CU head coach.

Campbellsville came out aggressive, firing off three shots in the first seven minutes of play. The Tigers found the net first in the 24th minute as Adam Fridell headed in a pass from Pontus Yngve for his first goal of the season.

Ten minutes later, Roraigh Yearwood followed with a goal from 12 yards out to extend the Tigers' lead, 2-0.

A penalty with 1:34 remaining in the half put the Trojans on the board, as Donny Maciel converted the penalty kick for his third goal of the season, cutting the margin in half at the intermission.

The Tigers didn't waste any time to regain the goal and add insurance, as Gustav Carlsson found Yearwood from midfield for a goal in the center of the box only 23 seconds into the second half.

Yngve added the eventual game-winner in the 62nd minute off a deflection from 10 yards out.

With a three-goal cushion, Campbellsville made some substitutions. But Trevecca found life in the final 25 minutes. TNU scored in the 66th minute on a goal by Richie Reichenberger and again in the 76th minute on a goal from Rob Ward, assisted by Connor Inman. During that span, the Trojans outshot the Tigers, 7-1.

Max Malachiyev gave up all three goals in the net for CU and had five saves. Campbellsville placed six of its 12 shots on goal, leaving TNU goalkeeper Braydon Brown with two saves in the loss.

Campbellsville (6-3-1, 1-1 MSC) will return home to Finley Stadium and Citizens Bank Field on Thursday, Oct. 27 to host Georgetown College (1-6, 1-2 MSC) in Mid-South Conference action. CU is calling for a Pack the House promotion for the game, which will begin at 8 p.m. EDT. Admission is free and multiple giveaways will be available through the night.
