CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — The Lady Tigers broke an eight-game win streak for No. 2 in the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) Trevecca Nazarene University Tuesday, defeating the Trojans 62-51. Senior guard Mackenzie Lee led the team in scoring with 17 points.
"It was a good win tonight," said coach Ginger Colvin. "I think we came off two emotional games last week, one an emotional high with the win against Cumberlands and then a low after the loss on Saturday. We came out a little flat, then again so did Trevecca. We had some improvements and were better at the free-throw line, but we have to do even better Thursday."
Trevecca scored the initial two points of the game, but CU responded on the next possession with a Courtney Clifton basket. Campbellsville battled to be on top for the first six minutes, the lead changing eight times until another shot from Clifton pushed the team ahead, 12-11. The Lady Tigers would keep the lead the remainder of the game. CU forced the Trojans into 17 turnovers in the half, off of which the Lady Tigers scored 15 points. Lee and Clifton both ended the period with 12 points each while TU guard Christina Curtner racked up half of the Trojans' points with 11 of their 22. Campbellsville went into the locker room leading by 11, 33-22.
Lee began the second period on a high note scoring from behind the arc, the only three-pointer that would find its way through the net in the half for CU (1-5). It proved to be a tough night for both teams from three-point range, as only five of 29 three-point attempts were makes. Despite 12 Lady Tiger turnovers, the team managed to stay ahead by double-digits, 26 points coming from the bench.
Lee and Clifton were the only Lady Tigers ending in double-digits, 17 and 12, respectively. Junior guard Katie Allen totaled eight assists and resxerve post Hayley Hellyer grabbed six rebounds for CU.
Campbellsville is now 16-4 (8-2 MSC).
The next Lady Tiger game will be held on the road Thursday at Bluefield College. Tipoff time is scheduled for 6 p.m. EST. To follow the team, go to www.campbellsvilletigers.com.
