MARSHALL, Mo. – Five Lady Tigers placed in the Top 8 of their weight Saturday at the Missouri Valley College Open. Campbellsville University women's wrestling, ranked No. 10 in the Women's Collegiate Wrestling Association (WCWA) entered six individuals and had one unattached individual in their first tournament in program history.
The MVC Open included wrestlers from 12 of the Top 13 teams in the WCWA and also several Top 10 individuals in the US Senior Rankings for women's freestyle wrestling.
Third-ranked Rosemary Flores (8-1) led CU with a third-place finish at 130 pounds, beating two Top 10 opponents.
Fifth-ranked Breonnah Neal (6-2) was fourth at 109 pounds and had wins over WCWA No. 4 Taylor Zaboray and No. 7 Daisy Santos. She was beat in the winner's bracket semifinals by second-ranked Kristi Garr of Oklahoma City. CU also had a fourth-place finish by Michelle Organ (5-4) at 155 pounds after she pinned (2:59) No. 10 No. 10 Heiley Garcia of Oklahoma City to reach the third-place match.
Michelle Lomas placed seventh for CU at 116 pounds. Her only two loses were to No. 2 Nickkie Bar of Simon Frasier and No. 6 Shelby Morrison of Oklahoma City. Kasey Kruczek wrestled unattached for CU and placed eighth at 143 pounds.
Kruczek and Cassidy Ferrell (101 pounds) each faced Top 10 grapplers in the US Senior Rankings, as Ferrell's day was cut short by No. 7 Tamika Jones in the fourth round of wrestle back and Kruczek lost in the second round to No. 5 Lauren Louive.
Campbellsville (1-2) will return to action Saturday, Nov. 23 at the University of Cumberlands Duals in Williamsburg, Ky.
