Neal, Flores unbeaten in women's wrestling opener

BRISTOL, Tenn. – Breonnah Neal and Rosemary Flores went unbeaten to lead the Lady Tigers in Campbellsville University's debut as a collegiate women's wrestling program Saturday in the King College Duals.

"For the first time out they wrestled very well," said CU head coach Lee Miracle. "To have two wrestlers go undefeated when you're wrestling the No. 1 and No. 9 teams in the country shows there's a lot of promise on our team."

Campbellsville opened the day with a highly contested 24-18 loss to No. 9 University of the Cumberlands, but 15 of Cumberlands points were earned because of forfeits due to injuries in the upper weights for the Lady Tigers.

Neal won by tech fall over Grace Paxton at 109 pounds to give Campbellsville a 5-3 lead in their inaugural dual. Michelle Lomas lost by tech fall to Sherri Berube, but Kasey Rickets recorded a decision over Tia Kingsley to give Campbellsville a 9-8 lead before Flores pinned Siebhan Esquerra in 40 seconds, boosting CU's lead to 14-8. CU only competed in one of the remaining five weights, as Michelle Organ beat Olivia Cepak by tech fall at 155 pounds.

Following the close loss to the Patriots, Campbellsville took on the King College B Team and top-ranked King Tornados, falling 33-9 and 34-8.

CU's only wins in both duals came from Neal and Flores. Neal beat King's Kayla Barnes by tech fall and won a 10-7 decision over Daisy Santos. Flores pinned Katie German in 3:42 and Kayla Brendlinger in 1:27.

Miracle hopes to have all weights filled come January when the Lady Tigers host Cumberlands on Jan. 4 for the CU Duals.

"We'll be solid once the second semester starts and our girls that are hurt are in the lineup," Miracle said. "We dropped some matches today we should have won, and we have to learn from those and move on."

The Lady Tigers also fielded one exhibition match on the day as 191-pounder Tiara Scott won 11-8 over King College's Malexis McAdoo, ranked No. 4 in the preseason national rankings. McAdoo was named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week on Oct. 28 after going undefeated at the Cliff Keen Oklahoma City Duals, including pins over wrestlers ranked No. 1 and No. 3.

Campbellsville (0-2) will return to action as a team on Nov. 15-16 at the Missouri Valley College Open in Marshall, Mo.
