Tigers advance to NCCAA Mid-East title game with shutout

Box Score

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- Two first-half goals by Kevon Farqhuarson gave Campbellsville University a cushion as the Tigers rolled past fourth-seed Union University, 3-0, to advance to the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Mid-East Region Championship.

"It took us a little while to settle in, but after we settled, I felt we were the team that we're capable of being. If we do that consistantly, we can take this a long way still. Kev had an outstanding game today," said Adam Preston, CU head coach. "It was an overall collective effort by the team. There were some mistakes, but we picked each other up, and I think that's the big difference when you win and lose - when you make a mistake and someone is there to cover your back. They do that so well this year."

Farqhuarson put the Tigers on the board, 1-0, with a penalty kick at the 20:20 mark of the game after Adam Linderholm was taken down from behind inside the box by Union's Cody Styx. His second goal came at 31:31 after Adam Fridell trapped a Union pass between his knees and pushed the ball up field. The Tigers drew a foul on the edge of box, setting up a direct kick for Farqhuarson. The shot deflected off a shoulder and in the net for the 2-0 lead.

After Union lost two players to red cards in the second half, Ryan Foster added an insurance goal in the 88th minute off a Roraigh Yearwood assist.

Max Malachiyev had six saves in the win as the Tigers recorded their sixth shutout of the season and third in the last five games.

Campbellsville (16-3-1) will host third-seed Lee University (11-3-5) in the NCCAA Mid-East Region Championship on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 7 p.m. on Citizens Bank Field at Finley Stadium. Lee advanced to the final with a 2-1 overtime win over Mississippi College.
