Volleyball beats Mid-Continent, will face Lee in finals

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – Campbellsville Lady Tiger volleyball took their undefeated record form yesterday into today against its first competition, Mid-Continent University. CU used their third straight sweep in the tournament to knock the Lady Cougars out of contention for the NCCAA Mid-East Championship, 25-15, 25-15, 25-13.

Campbellsville jumped out to a quick lead as it seemed they would overmatch Mid-Continent.

Jackie Schwieger kick-started the CU offense, as she served for six straight points to put the Lady Tigers up early.

Giselle Hernandez led CU in the first set with four kills. Jana Kortas chipped in three while Kelly Moyer chipped in two.

Rinata Aisena only recorded one kill in the opening frame but used a little different approach to help CU. Mid-Continent used a big attack but was dug by the CU defense. The pass was off target but Aisena turned and used her foot to kick the ball up, leading to a CU point.

Audrey Sanders used one of her three aces to close the set, 25-15.

CU and Mid-Continent both recorded 11 kills in the first set but Campbellsville took advantage of numerous Lady Cougar errors.

The second set finished exactly like the first as Aisena got in on the offensive attack of CU and used four kills to lead the Lady Tigers. Moyer also chipped in four more kills.

The third set was quick as Campbellsville took advantage of five Mid-Continent errors in key situations early in the set.

Once CU was in control, the Lady Tigers never looked back

Moyer led the Lady Tigers in kills with 10 as she was the only player with double figure points.

Simpsonville, Ky. native, Jana Kortas pitched in seven kills of her own following with Daiane Souza and Aisena's five.

Schwieger recorded 31 assists in the first match of the day and also used four dump shots to catch the Lady Cougars off guard.

Campbellsville (3-0 in the tournament) will play the decisive match in the round-robin tournament, as it will face host Lee University (3-0) at 6 p.m. ET.
