Clements leads Lady Tigers to 79-47 win

HOLOLULU, Hawaii. — Madison Clements was perfect in just about everything she did today, leading ta balanced Lady Tiger attack with 13 points and a 79-47 win over Pacific University in the Hoop N Surf Classic.

But her grandest play may have been when she drained a basket with 15 minutes to go in the game and tripped over a referee's foot while backpeddling down the floor, sending her sliding on her tail right in front of the scorer's table.

"Go ahead and give her some grief," said Coach Ginger Colvin. "That is a huge confidence builder for Madison.

"It's good that we bounced back and it's good to see everyone play. We didn't want to go .500 on the trip, but it's good to get a win and get back on track."

The freshman from Clementsville, Tenn., was 3-for-3 from the field, 1-for-1 from 3, and 6-for-6 from the free throw line.

Clements led two other Lady Tigers in double figures. Katie Allen and Caroline Owen had 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Campbellsville led from the 13:46 mark of the first half, eventually racing to a 17-point lead. CU's largest lead was 32.

"We seemed to be spinning our wheels early," continued Colvin. "Sometimes when you're running people in and out it's hard to find a rhythm."

Daizah Kimberland had a game-high nine rebounds and her teammate, Kristen Jacob, had seven. Those two helped CU to a 39-32 edge on the boards.

Owen and Allen broke open a 13-13 tie. Owen hit two free throws and consecutive 3s before Allen drained her second 3 of the first half. By then the lead was 24-13 and Pacific never got closer than eight after that.

Pacific's Olivia Cook led all scorers with 24 points.

The Lady Tigers had an advantage of eight in the turnover stat, forcing the Lady Boxers into 18. Ellen Sholtes had three steals and Allen dished out six assists, tying her season high.

The Lady Tigers go on the road after a short Christma break, when they travel Saturday, Dec. 28 to Nashville and a game against Bay Path College in the Music City Classic at Trevecca University. Tipoff is at 2:00. The game will be broadcast over university radio (WLCU 88.7). A link for listening on the computer can be found at www.campbellsvilletigers.com.
