BELLEVILLE, Ill. — Campbellsville had to cool off a hot-shooting Lindewood team to pick up its seventh win of the season Saturday night, 71-61.
Â
The Lady Lynx hit 70 percent of 10 first-half 3-pointers — three by Shelby Kohrman and four by Taylor James. But CU held the Lady Lynx (8-5) to just three points through the first 10 minutes of the second half.
Â
The defensive effort produced a 55-39 lead when Daizah Kimberland hit two free throws at the nine-minute mark. Kimberland was a beast in the second half, scoring 13 points — giving her 17 for the game.
Â
"We could have blow it open right there, but we couldn't get anything going ourselves," said Coach Ginger Colvin. "But it is a good win, what with it being our first road game. They are as pretty solid team."
Â
The Lady Tigers (7-0, 2-0) used seven points of offense from sophomore post Lindsey Burd late in the first half. After Lindenwood tied the game a 32-all with three minutes to go, Burd hit three baskets – the last of which gave CU a 38-34 lead. She ended up with nine first-half points.
Â
Ellen Sholtes led all Campbellsville scorers with 13 first-half points. She ended with 20 to lead CU in the scoring column.
Â
Lindenwood closed to within eight points when Diamond Burt hit a free throw with less than five minutes in the game. But Campbellsville got scoring down the stretch from Kimberland, Sholtes, Caroline Owen and Katie Allen to keep Lindenwood at bay.
Â
"Caroline took a charge in that run that really hurt their chances of coming back"
Â
The Lady Lynx were able to connect on only 1-of-6 second-half 3-pointers.
Â
Campbellsville hit 41 percent from the field and 50 percent from the free throw line.
Â
The Lady Tigers stay on the road Wednesday, Dec. 18 to play Menlo College in the Hoop N Surf Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii. Tipoff at 2:30.
