CU men's track and field opens outdoor season

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville University men's outdoor track and field kicked off its 2013 season with a sixth-place and fifth-place finish, respectively, at the Mount St. Joseph Invitational in Cincinnati, Ohio and the Berea College Invitational in Berea, Ky., March 22-23.

Leading the way for the Tigers was freshman sprinter Eurodge Bargblor, who collected 24 team points Saturday and was among the Top 3 for Athlete of the Meet. He won the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash after finishing second and eighth, respectively, in the events Friday at Mount St. Joseph. He was also a member of the Tigers' first-place 4x100-meter relay team.

The other Tigers to win an event on the weekend were jumper Timmy Perdue and hurdler Jourdon Redmon. Perdue won the triple jump at Mount St. Joseph with a distance of 13.34 meters and won the long jump at Berea with a mark of 6.70 meters. He was second in the triple jump at Berea. Redmon won the 110-meter hurdles at Berea with a time of 15.83 seconds, a shade faster than his second-place time of 15.89 the day before.

Bargblor and Perdue each earned Mid-South Conference Athlete of the Week honors for their performances.

CU had five individuals qualify in seven events for the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Championships, which will be May 2-4 in Joliet, Ill. Those qualifying were Bargblor, Perdue and Redmond, along with Chris Brown and Brett Pierce.

Andrew Simmons also ran a qualifying time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, but the race was disqualified due to an error in setup by the event's setup crew.

Campbellsville will return to action Saturday, March 30 at the Lindsey Wilson College Invitational in Columbia, Ky.
