Game 1: Campbellsville 8, Indiana Southeast 7
A two-out RBI single in the eighth proved to be the difference in game one of the doubleheader, as Travis Hayes scored the winning run on Jacob Phillips' single.
After Tanner Nielsen scored on a Carlos Torres single in the first, IUS took a 5-1 lead in the bottom of the second after drawing five walks and collecting three hits to bat around in the inning. Phillips reached on an error to start the inning, followed by a two-run shot by Torres, his first bomb of the season. Angelo Simmons also had an RBI single in the inning, driving in Michael Bush.
Torres led off the fifth being hit by a pitch. Courtesy runner Levi McCamish scored on an RBI single by Patrick McMeel, who scored on a Bush triple. Ryan Squires also collected an RBI single in the inning, giving CU a 7-5 lead after five.
The Grenadiers evened the score in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings with an RBI triple by Brad Walker and an RBI single by Frank Pluskota.
After Phillips gave the Tigers the lead in the top of the eighth, Allen Hewey took the mound, walking one and then retiring IUS in order, including a game-ending strikeout of John Dayton.
Tyler Schmunk received a no decision in his start after allowing five runs off four hits and five walks through the first inning and two-thirds. Mason Yates closed the second inning and pitched the next five for the Tigers, striking out six.
Game 2: Indiana Southeast 6, Campellsville 5
Campbellsville took a 1-0 lead in the second, as Simmons doubled to score Bush, but IUS neutralized the game in the bottom of the fourth with a two-out, solo home run by Justin Hurst. The Grenadiers went on to add two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth to take a 6-1 lead.
IUS used only three to score its five runs, taking advantage of a Tiger error and a pair of walks in each of the fifth and sixth innings.
Trailing by five in the top of the seventh, Campbellsville put together its second rally of the day. Bush reached on an error and Squires and Simmons were both hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs. With one out, Hayes singled in one run before Nielsen singled in two more. A wild pitch put Hayes and Nielsen in scoring position, followed by another wild pitch to score Hayes. With Nielsen representing the tying run on third, Phillips ground out to the pitcher and Torres struck out to end the game.
