Lady Tigers sweep Midway

MIDWAY, Ky. — Campbellsville added a couple more wins to its record Wedneday, sweeping Midway College in a doubleheader. The Lady Tigers had a total of 22 hits as opposed to the Eagles' eight.

 

Midway is 8-16 on the season while Campbellsville is at 26-10, 16-2 in the Mid-South Conference.



Campbellsville 11, Midway 3
The Lady Tigers scored in the first four innings of their five-inning contest against Midway, six runs coming in the third.

Campbellsville plated a quick three in the top of the first, after Midway put Shelby Ray and Kristin Benton on for free. Taylor Borders hit a single to center to score Ray, followed by a double down the left-field line from Heather Oakley to score Benton. Borders also crossed the plate on a wild throw (3-0 CU).

Destiney Taul added another in the second inning after reaching on a walk and being pushed around the bags by Emma Napier, Ray, and Benton.

The momentum had just begun for the Lady Tigers, though, who used five hits to score six more in the third, including one triple, two doubles, and two singles.

Midway answered in the bottom of the inning with three of its own, but were never a threat to the Lady Tiger offense.

Junior Alyssa Barker hit the long-ball for the last CU run in the fourth inning, bringing the score to the final, 11-3.

Kelsi Pardue began in the circle for Campbellsville, pitching two innings, allowing no hits, and striking out three. Taylor Wroe pitched two as well, allowing three runs. Senior Leslie Hastings finished the contest, allowing no hits, and striking out one.

Lady Tigers with hits include: Borders (2), Oakley (2), Napier (1), Ray (1), Sara Paragon (1), Barker (1), and Taul (1).

Borders (3), Taul (3), Ray (1), Oakley (1), and Barker (1) all had RBIs as well.

Campbellsville 9, Midway 3
The Lady Tigers played a full seven innings in its second contest against the Eagles, but still managed a six-run victory, ending 9-3. Senior Emma Napier batted 1.000 in the matchup, going 4-for-4 with one single and three doubles.

Campbellsville once again had a three-run first inning, after two Lady Tigers were given free bases and the Eagles had two errors in the field (3-0 CU).

Midway added two runs to the board as well, scoring in the bottom of the inning on an error and again in the third off of two hits (3-2 CU).

Campbellsville added three more, scoring a run a piece in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, Napier getting the momentum going in both the fourth and sixth.

Midway managed to add another run in the sixth, but CU responded with three more runs in the seventh off of four hits and one Midway error.

Lady Tigers with hits include: Napier (4), Shelby Ray (2), Taylor Borders (2), Sara Paragon (2), Heather Oakley (1), Brooke Boils (1), and Adrean Jordan (1).

Napier (2), Ray (1), Kristin Benton (1), Borders (1), and Jordan (1) all managed RBIs.

Courtney Turpin pitched six innings for the Lady Tigers, allowing five hits and only two unearned runs. Martina Riney pitched one inning, allowing no hits.

CU will face MSC opponent Rio Grande on Senior Day this Saturday at 2 p.m. EDT.
