BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Eleven personal records were matched or set Saturday as 15 Campbellsville University student-athletes competed in the women's and men's outdoor track and field Hilltopper Relays at Western Kentucky University.
Two of those PRs were also CU school records, as freshman Keisha Chiles continues to shave time off records in the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash since breaking the records two weeks ago at Lindsey Wilson College. Chiles ran the 100 in 12.26 seconds, just .01 shy of a B standard qualifying time for the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Chiles also dropped her 200-meter time to 25.17, while Kelsey Feltner set a PR of 13.05 in the 100.
The other track PR on the day belonged to Christiana Harris, who finished the 100-meter hurdles in 15.35 seconds. She also had a PR of 11.15 meters in the triple jump, finishing eighth behind Tiosha Beasley (fifth) and Chiles (seventh).
In other field events, Myra Rose matched her personal best of 1.65 meters in the high jump after setting the mark last week at Centre College to qualify for the NAIA Championships. Alexis Crawford also matched her PR mark in the shot put, matching her distance of 11.90 meters from both the 2011 DePauw Indoor Invitational and 2011 NCCAA National Championships. Casey Peach's discuss throw of 31.43 meters was also a personal best.
Beasley was also seventh in the long jump. JaNaiqua Horne competed in 100-meter dash and the long jump, while Harris also competed in the high jump.
CU entered one relay team in the meet, finishing sixth in the women's 4x100-meter with Feltner, Beasley, Lauren Little and Chiles.
On the men's side, Campbellsville entered six student-athletes in seven events.
Senior Chris Brown of Pelham, Ala., was the only Tiger to place in the Top 8, finishing eighth of 12 with a mark of 40.61 meters (133 feet, 3 inches).
Both Jourdon Redmond and Clayton Embry posted personal records in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing 10th and 11th, respectively with times of 15.57 and 15.63. Brett Pierce also had a PR, running the 5K in 15:51.59 to finish 13th among 28 runners. Tyai Jackson competed in the 400-meter dash and Aaron Johnson competed in the shot put and discus for CU.
No team scores were kept in the meet, which consisted mainly of NCAA Division I, Division II and Division III opponents. Campbellsville was the only NAIA team to compete.
The Tigers and Lady Tigers will return to action Friday, April 19 at the Centre College Twilight meet in Danville. Field events are scheduled to begin at noon EDT with track events beginning at 5 p.m. Click here for a schedule of events.
