Tigers drop game to NCCAA Mid-East foe Trevecca, 8-5

Box Score

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville University was unable to rally back from a 5-0 deficit Tuesday night as it fell to NCCAA Mid-East Region foe Trevecca Nazarene University, 8-5, at HIG Field.

Trevecca took a 4-0 lead in the top of the third. Tiger starting pitcher Jacob Phillips was perfect through two but loaded the bases with a leadoff single by Tyler Tichenor, walked Trae Weiss and gave up a base hit to Cameron Boyett. Phillips gave up the first runs on back-to-back walks before being pulled by Mason Yates. Yates gave up a fielder's choice and ground out RBIs before working out of the jam.

The Trojans added a run in the fifth with an RBI single by Jordan Foreman to score Blake Rogers, building a 5-0 cushion.

Campbellsville collected its first three runs with two outs in the bottom of the fifth. Angelo Simmons, who had the only Tiger hit through four, reached on a one-out error at third to start the rally. Aaron Schwoebel followed with an RBI triple and scored on a pinch-hit single by Travis Hayes, who crossed on home when TNU shortstop Ryne Rayburn misplayed a Michael Bush grounder. All runs were unearned in the inning for Trojan pitcher Michael Donalson.

TNU got two of the runs back in the sixth off Brett DeRooy. Boyett delivered a two-out double. He and Nick Howell scored on an error at second to stretch the lead to 7-3. The Tigers managed to get one run back in the bottom half of the inning, as Josh Potter singled to score Keaton Neeb's courtesy runner, Levi McCammish. However, Trevecca canceled out the Tigers' gain with a run in the top of the seventh when Weiss drew a bases-loaded walk to score Rogers, 8-4.

Neeb added an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth, but CU stranded two base runners in the inning, 10 in the game. Neeb and Simmons each had two hits to lead the Tigers, while Boyett was the only Trojan with multiple hits.

TNU starter Rob Rowland was declared the pitcher of record, going two innings and allowing only one hit for the win. TNU threw five pitchers and Campbellsville had six arms see the mound. Phillips was charged with the loss.

Campbellsville (25-15) is scheduled to return to action Wednesday at 5 p.m. EDT to host Asbury University at HIG Field.
