Georgetown Tigers defeat CU Tigers, 5-4

GEORGETOWN, Ky. - The Campbellsville University Lady Tigers got an early lead on Georgetown College but four GC hits in the sixth inning combined with two CU errors gave GC the ultimate 5-4 victory. The second contest was suspended in the middle of the second inning after an umpire had to leave due to illness. The game will be rescheduled next week.

Campbellsville got on the board in the top of the first quickly, with Shelby Ray being the first Lady Tiger to reach base on a single. Taylor Borders followed with a double to left-center, scoring Ray. Borders was then plated after being moved around the bags from a Heather Oakley double and Adrean Jordan single (2-0 CU).

GC was able to put one across in the bottom of the second, beginning the inning with a double from Shelby Engle and single from Madelyn Brown, both of which ended the afternoon 2-3 at the plate (2-1 CU).

Jordan had another single in shallow centerfield with two outs in the top of the fourth, followed by a two-run homer over the centerfield fence from junior Brooke Boils, putting CU up by three, 4-1.

Unfortunately, the Lady Tigers were unable to put anymore runs up while the orange and black Tigers managed four in the sixth inning.

GC's Katie Mann began the rally with a single to center, and advanced to second on an outfield error. Georgetown followed with three more hits, and yet another Lady Tiger error allowed four runs in the inning, giving the team the ultimate 5-4 victory after CU was unable to manage a hit in the seventh.

Victoria Decker was in the circle the initial five innings for Campbellsville, allowing eight hits and four runs. Martina Riney pitched the final inning, allowing no hits and no earned runs.

Jordan was the only Lady Tiger to manage two hits in the match-up, scoring once and racking up one RBI. Emma Napier, Ray, Borders, Oakley, and Boils each had one hit, Boils with two RBIs and Borders with one.

The next CU games will be held at home Thursday against MSC rival, Lindsey Wilson College at 2 p.m. EDT. To follow the team, go to www.campbellsvilletigers.com.
