Win at Georgetown boosts CU to MSC co-champs

GEORGETOWN, Ky. — The Lady Tigers completed their unfinished game against Georgetown College Tuesday evening, defeating GC, 4-0. The win puts Campbellsville University (37-13, 25-5 MSC) tied at first with Lindsey Wilson College for the Mid-South Conference regular season title.
 



It is Campbellsville's first MSC softball title since 2009.

"I couldn't be happier or proud of this group and how hard they have worked this entire season, they deserve it," said head coach Shannon Wathen. "Our leadership has been outstanding as well as our focus and determination."

The Lady Tigers finished the last five innings against GC, after the game last Tuesday, April 16, was postponed due to an umpire's illness. The teams entered the bottom of the second scoreless, and used two two-run homers for the win.

Courtney Turpin had begun the game last week against Georgetown allowing no hits in the first, but Kelsi Pardue replaced her to start in the circle today. Pardue ended the day allowing only three hits and striking out eight.

Each team managed one hit in their at-bats, but it wasn't until the top of the fourth that CU got on the board. Kristin Benton reach base on a walk and Taylor Borders stepped up and hitting a two-run homer to left.

Campbellsville attacked again in the sixth. Heather Oakley reached first on an error and Adrean Jordan hit the second two-run homer of the game for CU, and put the Lady Tigers up, 4-0.

Georgetown was unable to get on board.

The five Campbellsville hits came from Borders, Jordan, Brooke Boils, Sara Paragon, and Kacie Vincent.

Campbellsville will enter the MSC tournament this Saturday in Kingsport, Tenn. tied at first with Lindsey Wilson College, but the No. 2 seed due to a teibreaker that the Blue raiders own.
