Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. —Campbellsville started National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Mid-East region tournament play with a win this afternoon over Covenant College. After a game full of base running mishaps for the Tigers, Travis Hayes ended the game by stealing home and ensuring the 3-2 victory.

The Scots started the top of the first with hot bats, the first three players all reaching base safely including two singles and a double. Campbellsville found themselves down two going into their at-bat in the bottom of the inning (2-0 Covenant).
Fortunately, CU was also able to put two runs across after lead-off batters Tanner Nielsen and Michael Bush were both given free bases to start the inning. An Aaron Schwoebel single combined with a Scots' throwing error allowed Nielsen to score and Bush advance to third. The junior proceeded to successfully steal home plate, the first of two runs the Tigers would manage on a steal.
Although the first inning was full of action, neither team was able to score again until CU's seventh inning victory.
Campbellsville left seven runners on base in the course of the game, even loading the bases in the sixth with one out without pushing a run across.
Hayes was the first to reach base in the seventh with a single up the middle, advancing to third on a Nielsen single to right. With no outs, a wild pitch drew Hayes off the bag and over halfway to the plate. Covenant catcher Reid Pope attempted to deliver the ball back to the pitcher, but he was unable to make the catch, ensuring Hayes' safe arrival at home.
Brett DeRooy took the victory from the mound for CU, pitching all seven innings, allowing seven hits, two earned runs, and striking out six.
Nielsen was perfect on the day, going 3-for-3 at the plate. Carlos Torres was the only other Tiger to get multiple hits, going 2-for-3.
Keaton Neeb, Brandon Johnson, Angelo Simmons, Schwoebel, and Hayes each managed a hit a piece.
Campbellsville will remain in the winner's bracket and play again tomorrow night at 8 EDT. The opponent has yet to be determined.
