CU extends win streak to six to begin 2013

Box Score

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Roraigh Yearwood scored two goals and Eurodger Bargblor Jr. added one as Campbellsville Men's Soccer went to 6-0 with a 3-2 win over Salem International.

The Tigers played the latter half of a women/men double-header, as the Lady Tigers were victorious in a 2-0 win over Asbury University to get the evening started.

It was Campbellsville that found the net first in the 14th minute, when sophomore Bargblor scored off an assist from sophomore Roraigh Yearwood, CU 1-0.

Not until the 39th minute was another goal scored. SIU sophomore Mohamed Bakayoko made his way through the Tiger defense and into the six-yard box, Bakayoko fired past a diving effort from CU keeper sophomore, Max Malachiyev, finding the back of the net for his first goal, 1-1.

Bakayoko was not finished, however, finding the net again in the 40th minute on an unassisted goal from nearly the same position on the field, where he scored just moments before, ISU 2-1.

Yearwood made sure not to miss out on the sudden scoring started by Bakayoko, though, finding the back of the net with just three minutes remaining in the half, 2-2. The score remained unchanged heading into the break.

Campbellsville head coach Adam Preston said he felt that his team returned to the field in the second half with something to prove.

"It takes [this team] making a choice to say, 'this isn't going to bother us.'" Preston said. "Any time a team can put you on the ropes, they're going to try to put you over; they're going to try to put you down. But that just shows the character of this team, the fight they have and the depth we have as well."

CU called on Yearwood again, late in the second half, to lead them offensively. Yearwood answered. Scoring in the 81st minute, netting what eventually proved to be the game-winner.

"Roraigh Yearwood was fantastic today," Preston said. "Roraigh is coming on strong, last year he was good and he's just starting to get back in his form. I don't think we've touched the edge of his potential, but when you have guys like him that are leading and are not willing to give up ever, we will have a chance to win. John Kennedy, Max Malachiyev, Dru Sin; there are so many guys I can name."

Though the stat sheet says Malachiyev gave up two goals, Preston tells a different story. Malachiyev finished the game with two saves in comparison to the seven from ISU.

"I think both of those goals were not his fault. In this game, the keeper gets stuck with everyone else's mistakes. I told the team that they should make every save they are supposed to make, and then one amazing save a game. He made two or three amazing saves tonight and then every save he was supposed to make. That's the path of a good keeper; a great keeper does that over the course of eight to 10 games."

Campbellsville will be back to action on Tuesday, Sept. 17 when it travel to Lebanon, Tenn. to open Mid-South Conference play against Cumberland University at 4 p.m. CU will return to Citizen's Bank Field in Finley Stadium the Thursday, Sept. 19 when they will host No. 6 Lindsey Wilson College in another MSC matchup.
