Lady Tiger wrestling hosts first home duals

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – History was made Saturday, Jan. 4 as Campbellsville University women's wrestling hosted home duals for the first time in its inaugural season. The sixth-ranked Lady Tigers went 0-3 on the day though, falling to top-ranked King University and dropping close duals to No. 8 University of the Cumberlands and King's B team.

Breonnah Neal (3-0), Rosemary Flores (2-1), Hannah Hall (2-1) and Michelle Organ (2-1) led CU through their first home duals.

"The girls wrestled well overall showing improvement from the last time out," said Lee Miracle, CU's head coach. "Neal and Flores continue to be very consistent. It was great having Hall and Kasey Kruczek in the lineup."

Neal, ranked fourth at 109 pounds, gave CU five points against both King B and Cumberlands with a forfeit wins, and scored four team points in the 32-9 loss to No. 1 King. Neal beat fifth-ranked Daisy Santos of King, 12-2, in her only match of the day.

Flores, ranked third at 130 pounds, dropped her first match, 8-5, to King's Kayla Bredlinger but followed the loss with a pin over King's Megan Black, ranked No. 7, and a 4-2 decision over ninth-ranked Kerstin Harmon from Cumberlands.

Hannah Hall pinned her first opponent, King's Katie Germain, in 27 seconds and also pinned Cumberland's DeAngela Castex. Her one loss was a pin by second-ranked Amanda Hendey in the loss to top-ranked King.

Organ, ranked fifth at 155 pounds, collected a pin over Cumberlands' DeAngela Castex to give CU a 19-16 lead with two weights remaining. CU was one upper weight short though after weigh ins, leading to a forfeit at 170 pounds to put Cumberlands in front, 21-19. Angelica Hernandez pinned Kalyee Kaminski to close out the win for Cumberlands.

The inaugural home duals were hosted in conjunction with the men's wrestling program's Best Western Duals in Powell Athletic Center.

"The support from Franky James (CU men's wrestling coach) and the rest of the men's program was exceptional. Several of the CU administration were on hand to witness our first home meet," Miracle said. "The support here at Campbellsville has been incredible and has allowed us to experience rapid improvement. Rusty Hollingsworth, Jim Hardy and the rest of the CU administration understand what I am trying to build here, and I feel that I have complete backing and support."

Campbellsville, which was competing for the first time since Nov. 23, will return to action Jan. 12 at the NWCA National Duals in Iowa.
