OKLAHOMA CITY -- Campbellsville University women's wrestling finished third at the Cliff Keen Duals, hosted at Oklahoma City University. The Lady Tigers, ranked No. 4 in Women's Collegiate Wrestling Association (WCWA), finished third after avenging a quarterfinal loss to No. 6 Simon Fraser University with a 25-20 win in the third place match.
No. 1 King University won the Gold Bracket with a 27-20 win over No. 2 Oklahoma City University. McKendree beat Lindenwood, 26-19, in the fifth place match and Cumberlands beat Wayland Baptist, 31-18, in the seventh place match.
The third place finish should move the fourth-ranked Lady Tigers up to No. 3 in the next ranking, which will be used to seed the teams at the NWCA National Duals in January.
"Our goal coming in was to finish in the top three. We had a heart-to-heart talk last night after we lost to McKendree and it was important for everyone to know that when we're wrestling in duals, every single point matters," CU head coach Lee Miracle said. "The girls bought in to what I was trying to tell them, and they ended up wrestling hard today … In the second dual meet our girls stepped up and every single one of our girls fought for every point. That was the difference. We took it to them."
Michelle Lomas avenged a tech fall from earlier in the day and pinned Abby Lloyd in the third-place bought against Simon Fraser to lead Campbellsville to victory.
Shelby Hall and Kayla Miracle also gained extra team points with pins in the third-place match to help build a 10-point lead, 25-15, entering the final weight. CU chose to rest an injured Michelle Organ by injury defaulting the final match of the day at 155.
"Two of those situations came from freshmen, and that's huge. We had the youngest team there, and the fact that these girls are getting so good so quick really says a lot about their work ethic, dedication and commitment to what we're trying to do," Miracle said.
Kayla Miracle wrestled up all day, going 2-0 against Simon Fraser's Francesca Giorgio at 143 pounds and beating Lindenwood's Monica Ramirez at 136 pounds.
"Kayla wrestled wherever I needed to move her to do the best for the team, and if we hadn't had that we wouldn't have won. The fact she was able to bump up two weights and tech and pin a former (junior) national champion (Giorgio) was a huge," Miracle said.
Tiaira Scott (191 pounds) and Shelby Hall (123 pounds) were both 4-0 in the Gold Bracket. Scott had two pins and two tech falls and Hall had two pins. Michelle Lomas was 3-1 on the day, Kasey Ricketts and Rosemary Flores were 2-2, Michelle Organ was 1-2 in matches wrestled and Kaitlyn Hill was 1-3. Keely Holloway was 0-3 and Kasey Kruczek was 0-1 in matches wrestled with two forfeit wins.

"Several girls are getting better every match, and that's what's important. Now we have to find a way to get good enough to beat Oklahoma City in the national duals semifinals," Miracle said.
Campbellsville will travel to the University of the Cumberlands for a head-to-head dual Saturday, Nov. 1 at 10 a.m. EDT.Â
