WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – Campbellsville University women's wrestling bumped six of its wrestlers up in weight Saturday night, but that didn't keep the fourth-ranked Lady Tigers from beating University of the Cumberlands, 28-18, for the fourth time this season.
For various reasons, Coach Lee Miracle chose to move his top wrestlers up at least one weight from their national rating, starting at 109 through 155. That decision gave most of the team the luxury of not having to worry about their weight for at least one week.
"All we did this week was concentrate on getting better at wrestling. We didn't concentrate on cutting weight, and they all got better. It will help us in the long run," Miracle said. Â
Cumberlands started the dual with two pins at 101 and 109 pounds to go up 10-0.
Michelle Lomas scored Campbellsville's first points with a late pin over Alex Campbell at 116 pounds. After Sherri Berube tech'd Kasey Ricketts at 123, Shelby Hall wrestled up for a pin at 130. The pin pulled CU within two points, 13-11, due to the Patriots being penalized a point for piercing.
Rosemary Flores wrestled up to beat Olivia Cepak, 4-0, to give Campbellsville a 14-13 lead in the match, and then Kayla Miracle tech'd Kristin Yamasaki, two weight classes higher than her rank, 12-0. After Miracle created distance, Hanna Hall added a win to make it 21-13 Campbellsville.
Cumberlands remained in striking distance and got the first pin it needed at 170 with Clarc Walker sticking Kaitlyn Hill in 2:39, however Tiaira Scott only needed 28 seconds to pin Rebecka Winton and  give Campbellsville the victory.
In addition to the varsity dual, Campbellsville and Cumberlands competed in a B Team dual with the Patriots claiming a 40-10 win. Twenty-five of those points came from forfeits. Kara Cazeau collected the only B Team win for the Lady Tigers, pinning Siobhan Esquerra at 136 pounds.
