Box Score CLINTON, Miss. - Campbellsville University had a 3-1 lead slip away in the final eight minutes Friday, as host Mississippi College rallied to force a 3-3 tie in the NCCAA Mid-East Region Semifinal. The Choctaws advanced to the Mid-East final on penalty kicks, 3-1, after CU missed three of its first four attempts.
Campbellsville (13-7) will await an at-large bid to the NCCAA National Championships, which will be played Dec. 1-6 in Kissimmee, Fla. NCCAA National Championship qualifiers will be announced Nov. 23.
The Tigers flipped a 1-0 halftime deficit into a 3-1 lead. Alex Higdon assisted Marcelo Petit on the neutralizer in the 47th minute and then scored the go-ahead goal in the 50th minute.
CU added what appeared to be an insurance goal in the 74th minute on Petit's 22nd goal of the season, assisted by Roraigh Yearwood.
However, Mississippi College rallied in the final 10 minutes to even the score. Francisco Deanda, who scored the first goal of the game in the 20th minute, added a second goal in the 84th minute. One minute later, Brian Vasquez evened the score at three to eventually force overtime. Elliott Rimmer, Ewahia Amhanesi and Luis Montes each had assists for the Choctaws.
Neither team was able to score the golden goal in either overtime period. CU was held without a shot, while Mississippi College placed two shots in each extra period.
Josh Hollis had three saves in the loss for Campbellsville, while Humberto Pelaez had two saves for MC.
Campbellsville missed three of its first four penalty kick tries in the shootout, with Petit scoring the only one for the Tigers. Mississippi College scored all three PKs it attempted.
