Miracle wins Minnesota Storm Holiday Cup title

ROCHESTER, Minn. – Kayla Miracle collected her second USA Wrestling senior level tournament win Saturday, taking the 58kg title at the Minnesota Storm Holiday Cup.

Miracle, who is ranked No. 6 in the summer U.S. Senior rankings at 58kg, beat No. 7 Cpl Melissa Apodaca of the U.S. Marine Corps and Missouri Valley's Jacarra Winchester to claim the title. Winchester was ranked No. 3 at 55kg in the summer rankings.

Though she entered the day sick, Miracle tech'd her former mentor, Apodaca, 10-0, in the first round. She then faced Winchester, who was wrestling for Titan Mercury Wrestling Club, in a rematch of last month's 55kg gold medal match at the New York Athletic Club's Bill Farrell International. Miracle gutted out the two rounds for an 8-6 decision to sweep the round robin competition.

Winchester went on to pin Apodaca in 1:20 to finish second.

Miracle was scheduled to compete in the women's Greco-Roman competition on Saturday, but the competition has been canceled.

Campbellsville will return to competition as a team on Saturday, Jan. 3, when it hosts Life University for a dual in Gosser Gymnasium at 10 a.m.
