Box Score LEBANON, Tenn. — Campbellsville used four free throws by Caroline Owen late in double overtime today and climbed back into the conference lead, beating Cumberland University 69-66.
Â
The Lady Tigers (11-1, 4-1 MSC) were 25-of-43 from the line, after going 15-20 in the first half, before Owen zipped two freebies with 19 seconds to go to put CU up 67-66. She iced the game with two seconds left after Kristen Jacob came up with a block of a shot by Kaitlin Oliver preceded the last foul of Owen.
Â
"That was a battle," an exhausted Coach Ginger Colvin told 88.7 The Tiger play-by-play man Matt Payton. "Cumberland is one of the best teams in America. They brought in a ton of transfers and are not ranked early in the season.
Â
"But this win couldn't be more fitting for Caroline, who grew up about 20 minutes from here (in Carthage, Tenn.). I think her church was here and to be able to do this in front of family and friend is so special for her."
Â
After losing Thursday to Lindsey Wilson in the last seconds, it looked like CU would fall victim to a similar fate.
Â
Chelsey Hall was fouled with two seconds to go in the first overtime, but missed both tosses and CU took advantage of the good fortune.
Â
"That was my biggest fear coming in," said Colvin. "We were so drained after the Lindsey loss. To come here and beat a team like this on the road speaks volumes for our girls."
Â
After trailing much of the first half, an Owen 3 and free throws by her and Lindey Young spotted the Lady Tigers a 29-26 advantage. CU led 31-28 at intermission.
Â
Campbellsville looked like it might run away from the Bulldogs in the second half, sprinting to a 39-28 lead on two layups by Daizah Kimberland.
Â
"Kimberland was incredible. She was great on both ends of the floor."
Â
The senior from Bardstown, Ky. led the Lady Tigers with 17 points and nine rebounds. But Cumberland rallied and went on a 23-8 run and send the Bulldogs to a 51-47 lead.
Â
After Lindsey Burd hit a free throw with 2:38 left in regulation to tie the score at 53-all, Campbellsville fumbled its way into overtime with a turnover and a three-second violation. Burd drew a charge in the last 22 seconds of regulation, but her team could not get off a good shot.
 Â
In the first overtime, no one led by more than one point. A Burd layup tied the game at 60, setting up Hall's misfortune at the line. The Bulldogs (8-3, 3-1 MSC) were called for 34 fouls in the game and four players fouled out.
Â
Campbellsville held a 29-7 advantage at the line and a 45-34 advantage on the boards. Cumberland had 11 blocks in the game, but none of them were as big as Jacob's heroics at the end of double overtime.
Â
Jazmine Smith led all scorers with 24 points.
 Â
The Lady Tigers have a six-day break before hosting Bluefield College at 6:00 on Friday, Dec. 12 .
