Box Score CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Tiger baseball dropped its third game of the season Monday, as No. 18 Judson University prevailed down the stretch to secure the victory, 4-3.
Campbellsville and Judson were tied, 3-3, going into the eighth inning. Tiger pitcher
Jacob Phillips, who came on in relief in the seventh inning, saw himself get into a small jam after a leadoff walk to Billy Wright.
Â
Phillips struck out Luke Rojas for the first out but Wright stole second base on the play. Dom Demicco came in as a pinch hitter and his ground ball to shortstop Ricky McColloch squirted underneath his glove and Wright scored from second base on the error to put the Eagles up 4-3.
Â
Phillips got out of the rest of the eighth and ninth innings without anymore harm but Campbellsville could not pick up the key hit with Gentry Kinsella in scoring position in the final inning.
Â
Chris Tuma, starting pitcher for CU, gave up back-to-back singles, surrendered a walk and another single to Tony Rojas to put Judson on the board in the top of the second, 2-0.
Â
Campbellsville answered in the bottom half, as the Eagles starting pitcher Bryan Engelsen had back-to-back wild pitches scoring Jacob Russell on the second.
Â
Judson picked up a run in the top of the third but Campbellsville answered once again in the bottom half of the third inning, as the Tigers played a little small ball to make it 3-2. Alex Scanlan used a base-hit bunt and Carlos Torres got on base via a hit by pitch. Jamie Valle came in as the designated hitter for CU but used a nicely placed bunt down the third base line to advance both runners. Russell scored Scanlan in the next at bat on a sacrifice fly.
Kyle Kramer came in for Engelsen in the third inning and rolled through his first 2 2/3 innings pitched. But after recording two quick outs, Alex Gutierrez doubled to left-center field, Alex Kline reached on a walk and Steve Ferraro had an RBI single to score Gutierrez and tie the game, 3-3.
Â
Phillips entered the game in the seventh inning after Tuma got in trouble again but Phillips struck out Mark DeYoung to record the final out to enter the eighth.
Seven Tigers picked up hits but no one recorded more than one.
Rallo led Judson, going 4-for-5 with four singles. Rojas led the Eagles with two RBIs, going 1-for-3.
