Gentry Kinsella started the Tigers' day with a single up the middle to start the game to spark a bases-load top of the first for CU. However, Alex Cline struck out and Jacob Russell grounded out to leave the bases juiced.
Kinsella came through again in the top of the second, delivering a two-out single to right, scoring Ricky McColloch for a 1-0 lead. McColloch collected an infield single with two outs before working his way around the bases on a passed ball and balk to set up Kinsella's RBI hit.
Tiger starting pitcher Bret DeRooy allowed one hit in each of the first three innings without allowing a Lindsey Wilson run, and then retired the Blue Raiders in order in the fourth to hold its 1-0 lead.
CU threatened in the fourth, loading the bases again, this time with leadoff walks by Shane Woodson and Alex Scanlan, along with an error to put McColloch on. Kinsella flew out to right and Jaime Valle hit into a fielder's choice to leave all three runners on for the second time in the game. The Tigers left 10 runners on base throughout the game, but the Blue Raiders stranded nine.
Lindsey Wilson found momentum in the bottom of the fifth after stranding a Tiger runner in the top half of the inning. Trey Davis reached on a bad throw by McColloch to start the inning, and then Leonardo Ramierez singled with one out to place runners on the corners. Derek Shugart hit into a fielder's choice to score Davis and tie the game, 1-1. However, an error on the play at second kept the lead runner on, setting up a go-ahead RBI single by Mark Silva to score Ramirez. Alex Bautista also delivered an RBI hit in the inning to add CU's third unearned run of the inning. Bautista, Davis and Ramirez led LWC in the game with two hits each.
Campbellsville answered with another two-out RBI single by Kinsella, to pull within 3-2. The junior second baseman led all players in the game, hitting 3-for-5.
Lindsey Wilson added two more in the eighth to put the game out of reach. Mitchell Osnowitz singled to start the inning, followed by two bunts as the Blue Raiders built their insurance by playing small ball. Michael Rosario drove in the two runs, DeRooy's only earned runs of the game, with a single to center.
Sam Ross retired the Tigers in order in the ninth to earn the save for LWC.
DeRooy (2-1) went the distance for CU, giving up five runs on 11 hits. He struck out a season-high 10 batters.
England Smith record the win for the Blue Raiders, allowing two earned runs off eight hits and two walks through eight innings. He struck out five.
Campbellsville (5-5, 0-1 MSC) will return to Egnew Field Saturday to close the weekend series against No. 15 LWC (10-9, 1-0 MSC) with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. EST.
