CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Desitney Taul came up big in her second start of the season, scoring two runs, collecting three hits and making two nice defensive plays in right field as the Lady Tigers frustrated Pikeville today in a softball doubleheader, 2-0, 3-2.

Victoria Decker (6-2) set the Bears down with a one-hitter in the first game, stranding four UPike base runners on her way to a five strikeout performance.

Kristin Benton, who drew three walks in the opener, used her only hit in the first game to help manufacture the winning run. After her leadoff single, Shelby Ray used one of her three sacrifice bunts of the afternoon to advance Benton to second where she scored on Heather Oakley's double to deep center.

Taul drew a two-out walk in the bottom of the fourth, stole second and Markie Smith's double to left-center plated CU's (15-3, 4-0 MSC) insurance score.

Oakley added a single to give Campbellsville its five hits.

Pikeville (0-4, 0-4 MSC) played St. Catharine to two one-run losses (18-17, 9-8) on Friday and didn't get enough timely hits in the doubleheader, stranding eight runners total in the two games. Campbellsville wasn't any better as 14 Lady Tigers were left standing on base.

In game two, Taylor Wroe (6-0) worked through five innings of shutout ball before tossing a mistake to Eady Beth Connally in the sixth when she deposited a two run home run over the center field fence.

Campbellsville scored solo runs in the first, second and third frames. Kristin Benton scored on Oakley's sacrifice fly in the first, Taul homered in the second and Benton scored again, after a leadoff triple and throwing error, in the third.

Benton and Taul had two hits and Oakley the other, five in all for CU.

Wroe gave up five hits and struck out seven in her seven innings of work.

Campbellsville continues Mid-South Conference play on Monday, March 3, but on the road at Cumberland University, with a scheduled double-header in Lebanon, Tenn. First pitch set for 2:00.
