Game 1 – Cumberlands 4, Campbellsville 3

Cumberlands used a pair of home runs in the top of the sixth to push past the Tigers, 4-3, and hold on for the win. Hibraim Cordova led off the inning with a solo shot to left-centerfield, approximately 390 feet, to pull within one, 3-2, and then Keith Tidwell hit a two-out homer to left.

The Patriots scored first in the game on an RBI single by Lucas Bagnara to give Cumberlands a 1-0 lead in the first. Squires doubled down the left field line in his first at bat and took third on a passed ball. Jamie Valle drew a two-out walk to put runners on the corners and courtesy runner Levi McCamish got Tidwell to bite on a stolen base attempt. The throw went wild, scoring Squires to even the score, 1-1.

CU took the lead in the bottom of the third. Alex Gutierrez beat out an infield single to start the inning, and then took second on a passed ball and third on a balk. Gentry Kinsella drew a walk to set up a successful squeeze bunt by Squires to score Gutierrez for a 2-1 lead. Game 2 – Campbellsville 2, Cumberlands 0

CU used strong defense in the second game to keep Cumberlands off the scoreboard. After having three errors at short stop in game one, CU played seven innings of error-free ball in the final game, despite giving up seven hits.

Designated hitter Alex Kline started on the mound for the Tigers and helped himself out early, collecting a two-out single to deep right-center field to move Squires to third. Squire, who had a one-out single earlier in the inning, scored on a bloop single to right by Jacob Russell to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead in the first.

Cumberlands threatened in the third and fifth, but stranded runners in scoring position each time. In the fifth, Kline walked Luis Hernandez and served up a double to Cordova. With two on and no outs, T.R. Dunne took over and got a pop up in shallow right field to Kinsella. Dunne and the Tigers opted to intentionally walk Valencia to load the bases and set up a double play opportunity. He got it as Bagnara hit into a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning.

Kline helped secure his win with a leadoff double in the sixth. Though his pinch runner Shane Woodson was thrown out at home on a delayed move following a sac bunt, CU still managed to plate a run following a solo homer by Alex Scanlan.

CU shortstop John Ingram turned another double play for CU in the seventh to end the game.

Dunne secured his first save of the season, allowing only one out through three innings. Kline (2-1) pitched four shutout innings, allowing six hits. Cameron Smith had the loss for Cumberlands.

Squires (3-for-3) and Kline (2-for-2) were perfect at the plate for CU in the second game.
