Box Score 2 CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Charles Dickens wrote about two cities, but if he wanted to try his luck with two different softball teams, the Lady Tigers would be right up his alley.
Campbellsville used a leadoff home run by Kristin Benton and two-hit pitching by Victoria Decker to win game one 1-0, and then run-ruled the University of Cumberlands in game two, 9-0.
The wins move CU to 21-7, 8-2 MSC, and Cumberlands to 4-10, 4-4 MSC.
Benton's blast, her eighth of the season, ruined a nice pitching performance for Cumberland's Nichol Chesley (2-5) who relinquished five hits and struck out three.
Decker (9-3) was even better. To go along with two hits, she fanned 11 Patriots, walked one and stranded four.
Kristin Benton went 3-for-3, an RBI and a run scored. Destiney Taul and Kate Black each reached safely, Black's a double in the fourth.
In game two, CU used three pitchers who gave up three hits, with Taylor Wroe (7-1) picking up the win. Wroe went three innings and Courtney Turpin and Martina Riney both pitched one.
Coach Shannon Wathen went deep into her roster during the five-inning game, using 17 players in one capacity or another.
Kristin Benton singled in the first and scored three times in the game.
Shelby Ray used two doubles to push across two runs and Sara Paragon's three-run homer in the first set her up for a two-hit afternoon.
Heather Oakley and Adrean Jordan (RBI) both had singles.
CU did most of its damage in the first two innings when it scored eight of its nine runs.
Campbellsville will go out on the road Monday, March 17 for a conference doubleheader with Shawnee State, starting at 2 p.m.
