BOX SCORE

Cumberland jumped on top in the bottom of the second inning but the Tigers responded with a run in the top of the third. Gentry Kinsella picked up a one-out single and later scored before a Cumberland rundown tagged out Carlos Torres.

Cumberland picked up two runs in the bottom half but the Tigers answered again with a run, cutting the Bulldog lead to 3-2. Alex Kline and Jacob Russell both singled and Kline score on a sacrifice fly by Alex Gutierrez.

Cumberland starting pitcher Mar Monroe was chased after the Tigers' bats came alive in the fifth inning. Campbellsville picked up three runs off three hits but it all started with a Jaime Valle walk with one out. Kline delivered his first home run as a Tiger over the right-center field fence scoring himself and Valle. But CU wasn't finished. Russell doubled down the left field line and was driven in on an Alex Scanlan single.

CU southpaw Bret DeRooy (2-3) started on the mound for the Tigers and struggled to find his command. The senior surrendered five walks in six innings and struck out two Bulldog batters. He gave up seven total runs with only six earned.

Cumberland got to the Duvall, Wash. native in the sixth inning. After a quick pop out, reigning MSC Freshman of the Year, Chris Hall worked a six-pitch walk and started the Bulldog rally. Three singles later, and after a CU error, Cumberland scored three runs to take a 6-5 lead.

But the Bulldogs poured it on in the seventh and eight innings against CU relievers Chris Tuma and Ethan Berchet-Hall. The relievers gave up eight total runs but only three were earned.

Campbellsville, which has struggled thus far on the defensive side, surrendered three errors in the final four innings and put the Tiger offense in a situation that makes it tough to come back.

Kevin T. Greene (2-3) picked up the win for Cumberland, going the final three innings and shutting down the Tiger offense.

Campbellsville could not answer the offensive output from Cumberland and was only able to record two more hits in the contest after the fifth inning, which was shortened by the 10-run rule.

The two teams will be back in action tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. ET at Ernest L. Stockton Field-Woody Hunt Stadium on the campus of Cumberland University. You can watch the games live or listen on the radio, HERE.
