Box Score 2 LEBANON, Tenn. -- Campbellsville University bounced back from a late surge by Cumberland University on Friday by pounding out a 10-1 win over the 10th ranked Bulldogs to start Saturday's doubleheader. However, the Tigers were shut down in the second game Saturday, falling 9-0.Â
Game one of the day is career win No. 1,000 for Campbellsville head coach Beauford Sanders, who has 268 wins at North Greenville Community College (now North Greenville University) in South Carolina and 732 at Campbellsville.
Â
"Congratulations to Beauford on a big milestone win. This is a great accomplishment that speaks to his commitment to hard work, recruiting and love for what he does," said Rusty Hollingsworth, Campbellsville athletic director.
The milestone is the latest in a string of milestones for Sanders, who joined an elite group of Kentucky collegiate coaches last season with his 700th win at Campbellsville.
"It's hard for me to express in words only what that means. It is extremely humbling. For whatever reason, the good Lord has blessed me to be a part of and get some recognition for this accomplishment," said Sanders. "My life has been so enriched because of my experiences with great men and baseball and those young men I've had the opportunity to coach and mentor. I feel extremly fortunate. To God be the glory."

Game one: Campbellsville 10 Cumberland 1
Â
After a 15-5 debacle Friday, the Tigers came back today and gave Cumberland University a little taste of its on medicine and routed the Bulldogs in game one of the double header.
Â
Jacob Russell led the Tigers with two home runs on the afternoon and collected five RBIs. The junior has hit safely in 10 of the previous 11 games and leads the team now with four long balls on the season. Russell opened the series hitting 3-for-4 in game one and carried the momentum into Saturday, hitting 4-for-5 in game two of the series, game one of the doubleheader.
Carlos Torres only recorded one RBI but went a perfect 5-for-5 on the afternoon and finished the series with six hits.
Every Tiger in the starting lineup but one finished with at least one hit each in the first game Saturday and piled up 18 hits. The 18 base-knocks are the most by a Tiger team since April 4, 2012 against Mid-Continent University. The last time Campbellsville has picked up more hits in a Mid-South Conference game was against rival Georgetown College (19 hits) on March 3, 2012, winning 12-7.
Â
Cumberland jumped on the board first in the second inning but senior pitcher Matt Robertson (3-2) did not allow another Bulldog run until the ninth inning.
Â
Robertson pitched a 8 and 2/3 innings before being pulled after throwing 114 pitches. He gave up three runs on eight hits, walked three batters and struck out four Bulldogs.
"The first game today was like the second half of yesterday's game for them. We had 18 hits, played outstanding defense and put crooked numbers up in four innings. Matt did an outstanding job, but then in the second game we had a threat in the first inning, but after that we were done. We were non-existent offensively," Sanders said.
The Tigers struck gold in the fourth inning, scoring two runs and never trailed from there on out. Alex Scanlan picked up a one-out single, advanced to third on a double by Gutierrez and both scored on a double by Gentry Kinsella.
Â
Torres led off the fifth inning and Russell delivered his first home run over the left field fence to put the Tigers up 4-1.
Â
Campbellsville scored three runs in the seventh and eighth innings. Russell picked up a three run home run in the seventh and a RBI single to right field in the eighth. Torres and Kline also picked up RBIs with a single and sacrifice fly, respectively.

Campbellsville kept its hot hitting going to start game two, as Kinsella led off with a single and Carlos Torres collected a two-out single in the first. However those two hits were all that stood in the way of Cumberland starting pitcher Anthony Gomez recording a perfect game. Gomez pitched a complete-game shutout without allowing a walk or an error.Â
Alex Kline was chased in the first inning as the Tigers' starting pitcher. He allowed three earned runs without recording an out as Chris Hall led off the bottom of the first to spark a four-hit, three-run inning.Â
