OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – For the third straight day, a Campbellsville University freestyle relay team placed in the Top 16. The Lady Tigers placed 15th in the 400-yard freestyle relay finals Saturday night to finish 18th as a team at the 34th annual NAIA Women's Swimming Championships at Oklahoma City Community College.
The Lady Tigers dropped 3.18 seconds off their entry time to finish 15th in the 400-yard freestyle relay preliminaries with a season-best time of 3:51.06. They remained in 15th place in the finals with a time of 3:51.28.
Emily Hunter started the 400 free relay prelim for CU, swimming her 100-yard split in 1:00.29. Bailey Foxworth (56.65), Jessica Cook (59.31) and Shelby Mattingly (54.81) followed. In the finals, Hunter improved her time by .02 (1:00.27) and Cook shaved off .59 of a second (58.72) in the third leg of the race. Foxworth (57.12) and Mattingly (55.17) both had a slight increase in their evening swim.
Mattingly was the first CU swimmer to compete Saturday, posting a career-best time of 55.36 to win her 100-yard freestyle heat and finish in a three-way tie for 28th place among 50 swimmers.
Foxworth closed the morning session with a 19th place finish in the 1650-yard freestyle, but posted a season-best time at 19:03.04.
Saturday's finals brought an end to CU's season, which began in September and included 17 dates of competition along the way.
