LTS celebrates Senior Day with sweep of Shawnee

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — The Lady Tigers pulled off a clutch 4-0 game one win with a sixth-inning eruption and then held on in game two to make Senior Day very special for six young women.



 

Campbellsville 4, Shawnee State 0

 

CU (29-15, 16-10 MSC) got five of its six hits in the bottom of the sixth, punctuated by Heather Oakley's bases-clearing three-RBI double to give Victoria Decker her 11th win of the season.

 

Shawnee's Allie Chapman (11-7) waltzed through the first five frames, allowing only Sara Paragon's he single in fourth inning.

 

But in the bottom of the sixth, Brittany Rippy, Kristin Benton and Shelby Ray all singled, Ray's a bunt that slipped through Shawnee's defense. Oakley then doubled to deep center and Zatoria Leavell, running for Oakley, scored on Erin Benton's single.

 

Decker stranded five in her seven innings of work, striking out five and not walking a batter.

 

Kirsti Yates (2B) and Abby Barrett had two hits apiece for the Bears (19-14, 11-11 MSC).

 

Campbellsville 9, Shawnee State 4

 

Campbellsville took an 8-0 lead through four innings before a couple of pitching changes allowed the Bears to breathe some life. Taylor Wroe one hit Shawnee for the first three frames and came back in to pitch a scoreless seventh. Fellow seniors, Courtney Turpin and Martina Riney shared the circle in the fourth, fifth and sixth with Riney giving up three runs in the top of sixth.

 

CU pounded out 13 hits, led by a three-hit game by Kristin Benton. Oakley (1 RBI), Paragon (4 RBIs) and Alyssa Barker had two-hit games, with Paragon having a three-run homer in the third. Markie Smith, Melody Sims and Shelby Ray all had singles

 

Holly Brabson led Shawnee with two hits (2 RBIs).

 

In pre-game ceremonies, CU honored Heather Oakley, Courtney Turpin, Martina Riney, Taylor Wroe, Melody Sims and Alyssa Barker

 

CU entertains Rio Grande, Sunday April 13 at Veterans Memorial Park in a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
