Box Score 2 CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville and Bluefield met on the diamond for a regular season-ending doubleheader Saturday afternoon at HIG Field. The two teams were fighting for positiong in the Mid-South Conference standings split the twin bill, with Bluefield winning the first game, 6-1, and Campbellsville stealing game two, 4-3.
Campbellsville's defense struggled in the first game of the day and second of the series, and Bluefield made the Tigers pay. CU also stranded six base runners and hit into two inning-ending double plays to end rallies.

Game three of the series was a much different story. After Bluefield tied the game in the final inning with a home run to deep-center field by Zac Russell-Myers, Jaime Valle delivered a one-out sacrifice fly to right field scoring Levi McCamish for the game-winning run.

"It is always nice to win the third game," said CU assistant coach Chris Lewis. "We always tell our guys, if we lose the first game of a double header make sure you win the final game because it puts a better taste in your mouth."

GAME TWO: Bluefield 6, Campbellsville 1 – BOX SCORE

Miscues on the defensive side cost Campbellsville in the second-straight game versus the Rams. Bluefield picked up its first run on an errant throw by CU starting pitcher Chris Tuma, who attempted to get the lead runner out at third on a sacrifice bunt, but his throw sailed wide, allowing Chris McColloster to score.

Bluefield picked up two more runs in the fifth inning after a lead -single and double to put runners on second and third with zero outs.

Tuma picked up consecutive ground ball outs but the first one scored a run off the bat of Jacob Schober. The Rams' third run of the game scored on a Gentry Kinsella bobble at second base, allowing Tyler Timmer to score from third with two outs.

Campbellsville answered in the bottom half with two runs. Alex Scanlan singled to lead off the inning but was gunned down at home plate trying to score from second base on a single by Ricky McColloch.

Shane Woodson delivered a two-out single to right field to score McColloch, who advanced to second on a stolen base, but the Tigers could not muster anymore offense in the loss.

Bluefield College picked up three insurance runs in the ninth inning to pad it's lead.

Tuma (4-4) suffered the loss in game two of the series, throwing a complete game and allowing four earned runs on nine hits.

"Chris Tuma pitched well and stayed consistent with his command on the mound," said Lewis. "After the error he made in the third inning he worked out of multiple jams and gave us a chance. But the defense did not back him up and the three errors cost us leading to Bluefield's runs."

Kenneth Miranda (4-4) picked up the win in his 6 and 2/3 innings of work. Miranda gave up one run on seven hits and struck out two batters.

Corey Niten relieved Miranda in the sixth inning with a 3-1 lead. He pitched the remaining seven outs by only allowing one base runner for his third save of the season.

GAME TWO: Campbellsville 4, Bluefield College 3 - BOX SCORE

After losing game one, Campbellsville was put out of contention for post-season play in the National Christian College Athletic Association. The Tigers needed to win at least 2-of-3 games against Bluefield to maintain its required .600 win percentage for NCCAA play.

The Tigers put the loss behind them and picked up a 1-0 lead in the first inning, just two batters into game three of the series.

Carlos Torres singled to right field and advanced to second base on a bobble by Jacob Wright. Torres then advanced to third base on a wild pitch by Bluefield started Ryan Shockey and teammate Jacob Russell drove him in with an RBI single.

But the lead did not last long, as it took the Rams only three batters to tie it up at one in the next half inning. Jacob Schober led off with a double and scored on an RBI single by Sawyer McLamb.

Campbellsville then score one run in the bottom of the second. The Tigers played small ball to retake the lead. Gentry Kinsella singled to lead off and moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt with two strikes by Alex Scanlan. Ricky McColloch then delivered an RBI single to score Kinsella.

Shane Woodson added another run for Campbellsville, as he drove in Ricky McColloch in the fourth inning, giving the Tigers a 3-1 lead.

CU starter Allen Hewey was making his final regular season appearance as a Tiger at HIG Field and the senior shined. Hewey went 5 and 2/3, giving up six hits and allowing two runs.

"(Allen) Hewey has done a great job for us all season," said Lewis. "He has had some arm trouble all season and is going to get it checked out on Monday to see what damage has been done. But he has gutted it out the whole season and has stepped up when we needed him. That is awesome to see as a coach, a player doing whatever he has to for the better of the team."

Bluefield made it interesting in the final inning though. TR Dunne (5-1) came on in relief of Hewey and surrendered two runs but the big one came to Russell-Myers with two outs in the seventh, a 400-foot solo shot to center to tie the game, 3-3.

Campbellsville's offense got Dunne off the hook to give him the win.

Corey Niten (5-3) was the losing pitcher for Bluefield after he came on in relief of Shockey in the seventh.
CU finishes fifth in the Mid-South Conference standings and will meet fourth-seed Shawnee State University in game one of the MSC Tournamanet on Sunday, May 4. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m. EDT at Campbellsville's HIG Field.
