Box Score DANVILLE, Ky. — Taylor Wroe gave up a two-run homer in the first inning and then she and Victoria Decker shut down the Shawnee State Bears in the opening round of the MSC Tournament today at Millennium Park, 7-2.
Campbellsville (40-15) will meet No. 2 seed Georgetown Friday morning at 10:30.
Campbellsville 7, Shawnee State 2
The story line was early offense followed by late. After Wroe severed up the home run to Abbey Barrett in the top of the first, the Lady Tigers scored three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning and never trailed again.
Shawnee had three hits after a leadoff single in the top of the second, but then Wroe and Decker retired the final 18 Bears to make a plate appearance.
In the first, Adrean Jordan's three-run double was the punctuation mark. The liner to center scored Shelby Ray (error), Heather Oakley (hit) and Sara Paragon (fielder's choice).
Brittany Rippy's single in the fourth was the only hit for CU until the sixth when Jordan singled to lead off . Zatoria Leavell, pinch running, was scored from third by a pinch-hit single by Reagan Kingrey and then Alyssa Barker hit a two-run home run. Ray's single scored Rippy to end the nine-hit attack.
Wroe (18-2) was awarded the win, going four innings. Decker pitched three no-hit innings in relief.
Shawnee (25-23) will face St. Catharine at 12:30 Friday.
