Box Score TROUTVILLE, Va. – Campbellsville responded from its fall to the elimination bracket with a 6-2 win over Azusa Pacific University late Friday afternoon to stay alive at the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Championships.
The win sets a new Campbellsville (44-20) softball program record for single-season wins. The Lady Tigers will cap the night with an elimination game against Grace (Ind.) at Botetourt Sports Complex.
CU starting pitcher Victoria Decker no-hit the Cougars in the first two innings, but Azusa Pacific's __ Chavez delivered a two-out single in the third and swiped second and third to set up APU's first game. Abry Moreno singled in the go-ahead run, 1-0.
The Lady Tigers, playing as a home team for the first time in the tournament, pushed past the Cougars with a six-run bottom of the fifth.
Sara Paragon led off the fifth with a single to left and the hits kept coming. Alyssa Barker reached on an error to put runners on the corners for an RBI single by Erin Benton to score Zatoria Leavell, pinch running for Paragon. Kate Black also reached on an error to score Barker for a 2-1 lead. With two outs, Kristin Benton singled to center and Black scored on yet another error. Oakley also drove in two in the inning.
Azusa put two on with two outs in the seventh, but left them stranded as Decker got a ground ball to short to end the game.
Decker allowed one run and four hits in the win. She struck out one in seven innings.
Carly Xepoleas recorded the loss after 4 1/3 innings. She allowed two hits and allowed four unearned runs.
Paragon led all players with a 2-for-2 game at the plate.
