Box Score DANVILLE, Ky. — Georgetown scored a run in the bottom of the sixth to squeak by Campbellsville 5-4 and drop the Lady Tigers into the elimination bracket of the MSC Tournament today at Millennium Park.
After CU (40-16) had worked its way back to tie the score in the top of the sixth, losing pitcher Taylor Wroe gave up consecutive hits to Chelsea Riney and Emily Snow that provided the game-winner for Georgetown.
Georgetown 5, Campbellsville 4
The Lady Tigers rallied for a run in the top of the first when Kristin Benton, who went 2-for-3 for the game, was hit by a pitch, sacrificed to second by Shelby Ray and scored on two wild pitches.
The score remained that way until the bottom of the third when Georgetown (33-12) was awarded an extra out on an error by Brittany Rippy and Sandy Young's two-out, three-run homer just over the left field fence gave Gtown a 4-1 lead.
The Lady Tigers left 10 runners on base, but got a run back in the fourth when Erin Benton's single scored Alyssa Barker who had singled with two away.
In the sixth, Rippy scored on a single by Ray and Kristin Benton scored on a wild throw, one of four errors by Georgetown.
In in its half of the sixth, Riney legged out an infield hit, stole second and scored when Barker could not make a sliding catch on a fly into shallow right field.
Campbellsville had the go-ahead run on base in the top of the seventh, but stranded both.
Jessica Claxton (17-4) picked up the win and Kayla Williams her first save of the season.
Campbellsville plays the winner of the Rio Grande-University of the Cumberlands game this afternoon at approximately 2 p.m.
