Oakley's three-run shot sends Rio packing, 8-0

Box Score

DANVILLE, Ky. — Heather Oakley's three-run home run in the fifth inning run-rulled Rio Grande 8-0 and kept the Lady Tigers' hopes alive in the MSC Softball Tournament this afternoon at Millennium Park.

Taylor Wroe was masterful on the mound, allowing only one hit and striking out three Red Storm on the way to her 19th win of the season. A fourth inning leadoff single by Cheyenne Hamaker was the only blemish in Wroe's statline.

It looked like Campbellsville was going to try and let a first-inning run hold up, stranding eight base runners through the first four frames.

A two-out Markie Smith single preceeded a run-scoring double by Alyssa Barker for what turned out to be the only run necessary for CU's 41st win against 16 defeats.

Campbelsville added three more runs in the third off an RBI-double by Shelby Ray and an RBI-single by Oakley. Oakley ended up scoring on a wild pitch.

In the deciding frame, Smith was hit by a pitch to lead off and was sacrificed by Brittany Rippy. After an RBI single by Kristin Benton and a walk to Ray, Oakley uncorked her long fly to deep left-centerfield.

Campbellsville is scheduled to play the winner of the Lindsey Wilson-Shawnee State game at 2 p.m. Saturday.
