Patterson, Harris score points in NCCAA high jump events

ROME, Ga. – I-Rell Patterson and Christian Harris each scored points for Campbellsville University in the high jump at the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Men's and Women's Track and Field National Championships.

Patterson's jump of 1.88 meters placed him sixth in the men's high jump, giving CU three points. The Tigers are now No. 18 of 20 teams after nine finals events.

Harris' jump of 1.57 meters placed her eighth in the women's high jump, giving CU one team point. CU is tied for 19th in the women's standings after eight events.

While both placed in the Top 8, only the Top 3 are named NCCAA All-Americans.

Harris also participated in the 100-meter hurdles and javelin preliminaries, qualifying in sixth position for the 100-meter hurdles finals. Kelsey Feltner also participated in prelims, running in the 200-meter dash.

Demytreus Gipson finished in eighth position in the men's 200-meter dash preliminaries, while Johannesburg Boulware (400-meter dash) and Aaron Johnson (discus) also participated in prelims.

The championships will conclude Saturday, May 3.

Harris will start the day in the women's triple jump finals, followed by Lindsey Burd in the women's shot put. On the track, Joey Hartlage will compete in the men's steeplechase at 11:30 a.m., followed by the women's 100 hurdles finals at 12:55 p.m., men's 400-meter dash at 1:15 p.m., men's 200 finals at 2:50 p.m., and men's 5,000-meter run at 3:40 p.m.

Azusa Pacific University leads the women's standings with 61.5 points, followed by Indiana Wesleyan (40.5), Bethel Indiana (39.5), Point Loma (27.5), Shorter (22), Fresno Pacific (20), Trinity Lutheran (18), Lee University (12), Dallas Baptist (12) Oklahoma Christian (12) and Greenville College (12) to round out the Top 10.

In the men's championships, Bethel (Ind.) leads the field with 43.5 points, followed by Azusa Pacific (30), Oklahoma Christian (29), Greenville (27), Shorter (26), Southern Nazarene (24.5), Indiana Wesleyan (24), Roberts Wesleyan (24), Houghton (19) and Lee University (15) round out the Top 10.
