CU's scoreless drought continues in 1-0 loss to Choctaws

Box Score

CLINTON, Miss. — Mississippi College scored a run in the top of the ninth and that was enough to edge Campbellsville 1-0, eliminating the Lady Tigers in the NCCAA Mid-East Region.

MC (32-11) has won 25 of its last 29 games and the Choctaws' Lacie Patterson (15-2) was as stingy as any pitcher CU (42-19) faced all season. The junior right-hander shut down a team averaging five runs a game over a 61-game schedule. The Lady Tigers did not score in any of the 16 innings with Patterson in the circle.

The Lady Tigers were two-hit Wednesday night and collected eight hits today, but none with runners in a position to score.

After giving up a hit in each of the first two innings, losing pitcher Victoria Decker (17-9) did not allow another hit for five consecutive innings until Kate Donnelly's leadoff double in the top of the eighth. Decker got out of that inning unscathed, but couldn't do the same in the ninth when the Choctaws picked up three hits and scored Lauren Mulligan on a fielder's choice by Kimmie Conley.

Campbellsville had eight hits and left seven runners on base today.

Heather Oakley, Kate Black and Brittany Rippy all had two-hit games while the Benton sisters, Kristin and Erin, managed one each.

CU had runners at the corners with two outs in the fifth, but could not plate a run. Zatoria Leavell, pinch running for Erin Benton in the ninth, reached second on a stolen base with one out, but was stranded there.

The Lady Tigers, ranked No. 3 in the NCCAA, will accept a bid to the national tournament if it's offered when bid go out this weekend.
